How to get a digital nomad visa
You’re eligible to get a D3 visa in Portugal if you:
- Work contract with a Portuguese company as a highly-qualified worker with a minimum duration of 1 year and minimum salary amount of €1.600,00/month
- Degree

Step 1
Collect DocumentsPassport or additional travel document valid for 3 months after the duration of the stay
Two passport photos, up-to-date and with enough quality to identify the applicant
Valid travel insurance, allowing medical coverage, including medical emergencies and repatriation
Proof of being in a regular situation when from a different nationality than that of the country where the visa is being applied for (= current PBH visa)
Request for criminal record enquiry by the Immigration and Border Services (SEF)
Criminal record certificate from the country of origin or the country where the applicant is residing for over a year (children under the age of 16 are exempt from producing a criminal record)
Proof of accommodation
Diploma matching the job description (the so-called "professional certificate")
Optional:
- Proof of means of subsistence as stipulated by law
- Proof of subsistence means can be made through a statement of responsibility, signed by a Portuguese national or by a foreign national legally resident in Portugal

Family MembersFamily members can submit their documents for a residence visa at the same time with the main applicant.
Additional documents required in the case of a spouse are a marriage certificate, translated into Portuguese by a sworn translator, and in the case of children a birth certificate, translated as above.
All adults must submit a certificate of no criminal record, translated as above.

Taxes and cost of living
As a digital nomad staying in Croatia with a digital nomad residence permit, you’re not subject to any income tax within Croatia.
However, you might be subject to paying taxes for your passive income.
Also, note that you’ll still need to pay your taxes in your home country. Speaking to a lawyer beforehand will be very helpful.
